I deeply honour Benjamin and Mary Purnell as the Seventh & Last Messengers of Shiloh (Holy Spirit & Holy Ghost), while they were truly the final reformers (aka, the restorers) of the Body of Christ, here upon earth.

May their LIFE message ever be an example and an inspiration for all true-truth seekers, throughout all ages to come! And may Elohim/God/Shiloh be Praised for the message of LIFE that is given to us here, via., Joanna Southcott - 1750, Richard Brothers - 1757, George Turner - 1862, William Shaw - 1771, John Wroe - 1782, James J. Jezreel - 1840, and most of all Benjamin & Mary Purnell - 1861-2 whom were lead by the author and finisher of our faith; Jesus = Father, the Messiah of Immanuel (the son of the virgin Mary) according to Isaiah and Matthew.

Ron, Thank you so much for the AMAZING tour and lunch Sunday. I've become so fascinated with the City and it's cultures, even when I was very young growing up there (and you lived next to Grandma & Grandpa), I was very interested in what was going on out there.

Until the tour, I had NO IDEA the impact that was made over the years. I was disappointed that we didn't make it on the last stretch of the tour to see the spring. Next time for sure!!!

I would love to know of any films or documentaries that may have been made about the City.

Again, thank you so much for the first hand account of life in the City.

** Funny side note ... my boyfriend had never been farther North than Georgia, and he thought the "mock" in "mock steak" was just a strange breed of cow from the North!! HAHA

My dad use to ride the train with me when I was young. How I loved to go across the tall tressel, bridge.

We visited all the time. We would eat the best ice cream in the world. Later it was the best beer, at the beer gardens. Of course a lot of time lapsed between the 1st and the latter.

I watched the kickers play soccer, and play in the penny arcade. Oh ya, we thought we knew where Brother Ben was laid to rest, but we never found him.

It was a special place, this web site explained many things I never realized about the "House of David."

Thanks Ron.

Your friend,
David

I was born in Benton Harbor and spent many a time at the House of David. Riding on the train, the pony rides and many other wonderful things to do.

I also like to listen to the music on Sundays and watch the people dance. It was a wonderful place for fun and enjoyment.

I would also like to tell you I am LeRoy Kelms sister. He has said many nice things of you and with the cook book coming out I can see why. I wasn't always sure what I was eating but I can tell you it was very very good.

Thank you,
Connie Phillips

I recently visited the museum and spoke with member Ron Taylor. I find the history and doctrinal teachings most fascinating, and would recommend others visit and investigate.

I was raised on a 40-acre farm adjacent to what my parents called "The House of David Farm" off of Rangeline Road south of Berrien Springs, MI in Berrien County. The members raised fruit at this bustling operation. The manager of the farm was Bob Varitz (sp?) and he was such a kind man.

As many of you have indicated - such sweet memories!

I visited the House of David park in Benton Harbor only twice (that I can remember). One time was to get leaves for my h.s. biology leaf collection; another time to see David Clayton Thomas in concert from the band Blood, Sweat, & Tears.

The park had declined considerably, so it's wonderful to know that restoration of the park is occurring.

Great site - thanks for all of the information and for bringing back those warm memories. I would love to visit those old stomping grounds again someday.

I am interested in my family history. The son of Albert Baushke - Otis - was married to two of my great grandfather's nieces - Eliza & Winifred Murphy. The Murphy family sailed to the US in 1905 & lived at the 'House of David'.

Someone found this site for me and I've found it very interesting. Catherine Murphy was my great grandfather's younger sister. She was born in London in 1849. Her family sailed to New Zealand in 1857 , then settled in Australia. It amazes me how widespread one family can become!

I remember the quiet, long haired gentlemen from the House of David on our bus when I was a child. I lived near North Ryde in Sydney, Australia.

The House of David had a farm there.

My step daughter, Julie, used to go there with her parents nearly every weekend to ride ponies, as did nearly every other child in our neighbourhood.

What lovely memories. She will be delighted to see your website. I often wondered what happened to the people from there and I often wondered about their beliefs.

Hello,

My mother's side of the family lived in Benton Harbor and St. Joseph. We use to visit the grandparents and many Aunts, Uncles, and cousins in the 1950's. It was a MUST for us to visit the House of David!! :-) I was in my early teens. I have very fond memories of it and remember the stage shows and the train rides. We came for the food and entertainment. It sure was a beautiful place.

Since I've found this site I am eager to tell the rest of my family that it is still possible to visit!!!! I will plan to visit in 2006!!!! Yippee......

My great grandmother and family owned a cottage in Benton Harbor, out in the country, near the House of David. My mom and aunt tell me wonderful stories about "staying with grandma" over the summers when they were kids.

The family name was Creswell, I believe. When I was a child, I remember our family driving up to Benton Harbor, and seeing the area. It was beautiful, and seemed like a wonderful place to spend the summer.

I am so happy to find that part of the area has been restored and that the House of David is still a fixture in the community.

I am very interested in the continuing followers of Joanna Southcott, James Jezreel, John Wroe et al, all who came from the United Kingdom. Here in the UK the following is rather small, but I want to keep a library of their revelations and publications, those who continue to follow them. After all, someone should and must. Please can followers contact me?

We just remembered that we use to live near by and come down for the shows, to ride the train and drive the cars.

We plan on coming down this Sunday for lunch (8-14-05) sounds very good.

We are going to open an Art Gallery on 86 West Main St, Benton Harbor, with additional samples of our work at Tabor Hill and the Richard Vance GALLERIA del CORAZON.

Sorry we missed Tom playing over last weekend, we were invited to come but were busy working in our Ludington store.

We will see you Sunday.

I have long been interested in the Joanna Southcott groups.

I remember meeting members of the New and Latter House of Israel when I was young. I beleive that there are still about six members left.

I also have a friend who remembers their huge temple in Kent, and seeing Jezreelites in full costume. I would like to hear from people in UK who remember them too.

As a Teacher of Theology, and a follower of the Israelite Religious Traditions, I study, with great seriousness the teachings of the House of David. Raised in Benton Harbor in the Fifties, gave me a tremendous love and understanding for the wonderful People of the Colony.

Falsehoods and Myths have long characterized the Sect as being a bunch of long-haired nuts. Anyone taking the time to read their literature comes away with a feeling of love and admiration for these deeply religious people.

Persecution is not new to Christians and the House of David has beenrendered extinct at the hands of the Michigan Judicial System of the 1920's. Please remember Brother Benjamin was never found guilty of the lewd acts he was accused of.
