Comments:I remember the quiet, long haired gentlemen from the House of David on our bus when I was a child. I lived near North Ryde in Sydney, Australia.
The House of David had a farm there.
My step daughter, Julie, used to go there with her parents nearly every weekend to ride ponies, as did nearly every other child in our neighbourhood.
What lovely memories. She will be delighted to see your website. I often wondered what happened to the people from there and I often wondered about their beliefs.

Comments:Hello,
My mother's side of the family lived in Benton Harbor and St. Joseph. We use to visit the grandparents and many Aunts, Uncles, and cousins in the 1950's. It was a MUST for us to visit the House of David!! :-) I was in my early teens. I have very fond memories of it and remember the stage shows and the train rides. We came for the food and entertainment. It sure was a beautiful place.
Since I've found this site I am eager to tell the rest of my family that it is still possible to visit!!!! I will plan to visit in 2006!!!! Yippee......

Comments:My great grandmother and family owned a cottage in Benton Harbor, out in the country, near the House of David. My mom and aunt tell me wonderful stories about "staying with grandma" over the summers when they were kids.
The family name was Creswell, I believe. When I was a child, I remember our family driving up to Benton Harbor, and seeing the area. It was beautiful, and seemed like a wonderful place to spend the summer.
I am so happy to find that part of the area has been restored and that the House of David is still a fixture in the community.

Comments:I am very interested in the continuing followers of Joanna Southcott, James Jezreel, John Wroe et al, all who came from the United Kingdom. Here in the UK the following is rather small, but I want to keep a library of their revelations and publications, those who continue to follow them. After all, someone should and must. Please can followers contact me?

Comments:I have long been interested in the Joanna Southcott groups.
I remember meeting members of the New and Latter House of Israel when I was young. I beleive that there are still about six members left.
I also have a friend who remembers their huge temple in Kent, and seeing Jezreelites in full costume. I would like to hear from people in UK who remember them too.

Comments:As a Teacher of Theology, and a follower of the Israelite Religious Traditions, I study, with great seriousness the teachings of the House of David. Raised in Benton Harbor in the Fifties, gave me a tremendous love and understanding for the wonderful People of the Colony.
Falsehoods and Myths have long characterized the Sect as being a bunch of long-haired nuts. Anyone taking the time to read their literature comes away with a feeling of love and admiration for these deeply religious people.
Persecution is not new to Christians and the House of David has beenrendered extinct at the hands of the Michigan Judicial System of the 1920's. Please remember Brother Benjamin was never found guilty of the lewd acts he was accused of.

Comments:Hello to all who will read this.
I have heard pretty much my whole life about the House Of David and all its wonders.
My mother spoke fondly of it. She remembers how gorgeous it was. Now that I'm older, I came to this site to get more information to do a research paper for my Sociology class.
It really is a wonderful site!
Thank you!

Comments:I remember going to the House of David with my grandparents in the late 1950s and early 1960s. My grandfather, Frederic John Simpson, married my grandmother, Estella Hines, in 1955. We went to the bakery for black bread, and my grandparents took me to the amusement park on many occasions. I loved the train, the go-carts, and even sitting in the beer garden. It was such a surprise to turn off Britain Avenue and wind our way into the tree canopied park with all its surprises, especially the ice cream. I remember the big houses, too, where members lived. I once met the woman who ran the printing press in the 1970s; her name was Chick. My grandfather lived at the Mary's Hotel until he married my grandmother. At that time, Benton Harbor was a thriving community. If anyone remembers either of my grandparents, please let me know.

Comments:I made a special trip to view the House Of David. I lived in Benton Harbor from the time I was 3 years old until I was about 15. I was there about 3 years ago and I have been thinking about HOD ever since. Growing up I don't think that we gave it much thought, it was just a fun place to visit as a family. Now I'm drawn to this place can I can't wait to see it restored to it's original grand state. Not only was HOD a beautiful place, it made Benton Harbor beautiful too.

Comments:Hi Ron,
Enjoyed getting your list of things going on at Mary's City of David this year. Still remember the many things that we used to do while visiting in our younger years. Always had a good time at the park and always enjoyed the Ice Cream cones and the Miniature Train Rides as well as the many other things to do. It was not a rip off as many of the aumusement parks are today. Keep up the good work.

Comments:As a child my Mother, Grandmother, Brother and I would spend our summers in a cottage at Mary's City of David. This was during the late 1940's into the mid 50's. I can still vividly recall Sister Eunice and Brother "Firecracker". The wonderful smells coming from the bakery and the daily trips to the springs to fill our water pitcher.
We would spend lazy summer days at Jean Clock beach and visit the Siver Pier amusement park. I learned to drive at age 10 on the dusty back roads because my Mother thought it would be safer if someone besides her knew how to drive the car.
